This community is the only one in the history of the church to be founded specifically for the Poor Souls in Purgatory to receive the merits of the sisters’ good works. They were founded in Europe by Blessed Eugenie Smet, aka Mother Mary of Providence. One of the first books they read together as a community was Father Faber’s “All for Jesus.” If anyone wants to read the life of the Mother Foundress, look up, “I am on Fire.”
Here is the link for the US community: http://helpers.org/
There is also a book called “Some Sisters of Mine” which profiles a number of Helpers. One was Mother Miki, of the Chinese community, who gained a reputation for being able to cure children with baptism. Even the demons were telling mothers to take their children to her. The Helpers were also able to help rid the nation of the “beauty” of the women wearing their toes bound under their feet.
Although assisted by the Daughters of Charity when they were being founded, the Helpers are of Ignatian spirituality.
