Spiritual communion (for those who can't go to communion)

It is not possible for everyone to receive at every mass. The idea of spiritual communion is part of the Catholic tradition–inviting Jesus into your heart and soul. This article begins with a scene during World Youth Day–when after a wild windstorm, most of the million people at the closing mass could not have communion since the tents storing the unconsecrated hosts were collapsed.

I think what is most beautiful about the Spiritual Communion Prayer is that it can be used essentially anytime, not just when one is sick or has a valid reason not being able to attend the obligation of going to Mass. Love this Prayer. Thanks for your post.

St. Jean-Marie Vianney, a French priest famous for converting countless souls to Christ in his parish of Ars in the 19th century, once said “when we feel the love of God growing cold, let us instantly make a Spiritual Communion. When we cannot go to the church, let us turn towards the tabernacle; no wall can shut us out from the good God.” We can indeed be grateful for that!
