Spiritual Director

Since having joined the Catholic Answers Forums, I have heard the term “Spiritual Director” used frequently and I gather from what I am reading that a spiritual director may not necessarily be a Catholic Priest. Can somebody please shed some light on this topic for me? Also, how would one go about seeking out a Spiritual Director?

Thank you!!

A spiritual director is usually a priest, which can be very helpful because he can also be a confessor who has in-depth knowledge of your spiritual needs, but a spiritual director can also be a non-ordained religious or a layperson trained for the task.

To find a spiritual director, you might ask for recommendations from your confessor or from your diocese. I also recommend the book Seeking Spiritual Direction by Fr. Thomas Dubay.
