In his treatise on the priesthood, St. Chrysostom says (to paraphrase) that Jesus shed His blood to win the sheep He has entrusted to Peter and his successors. Has anyone familiar with the works of the early Church found similar statements made about any of the other apostles? John, Paul- any of them?
It’s a reference to Acts 20:28 “Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you guardians, to feed the church of the Lord which he obtained with his own blood.”
