St. Michael Chaplet

Why do we ask the intercession of St. Michael when praying the St. Michael chaplet? I am trying to explain this to a child. Why not just ask Christ’s intercession directly? Appreciate any help. God bless.

We Catholics ask the intercession of St Michael because he has a role given by God and He does intercede for us and help us from that grace given from God. He is a created angel with a special duty to defend us.
We Catholics don’t ask Christ’s intercession but we pray to him. He is God.
