Submission

I was wondering everyone’s thoughts on what it means to be submissive to your husbands. I really was just looking for some ideas about what this means as far as roles within the marriage. Some examples may be who does what chores, if there should be set chores, child care (changing diapers, feedings, possible homeschooling duties). Who makes the decisions on the majority of things and does the husband have the final say?

I can’t remember the specifics to explain it, but Christopher West’s talk on that in Naked Without Shame really explains it perfectly and beautifully.
The CD set is only like 5 bucks with shipping from www.giftfoundation.org

I don’t buy into it much at all and think male/female has nothing to do with who should or does what chores best.

As for “final say”, I don’t think much of it either.

In my view, man and woman become 1 when they get married and should take care that their words and deeds reflect that and the need to take care of the family - not just themselves.

Final say in our house is what’s best for the family, rather than either of us as individuals. If we can’t completely agree, there are rare occassions where we can’t find a compromise or agree for the sake of the other person. Neither of us feels there is much worth hurting the other person over, so we’re pretty good about finding a way to agree somehow usually.

Biblically speaking, it’s a two way street, I think. Paul said a lot of things about women (cover your head, don’t cut your hair, be silent in church, etc.) but when he talks about women submitting to their husbands as to the Lord, he also admonishes men to love their wives as Christ loved the church, so, if each party to the marriage places the other before self, well, it ought to be a pretty good thing!

Now, not being perfect, my own experience has fallen a bit short of this ideal.

I personally feel that submission to my husband means for me to respect him. Therefore I am a wonderful friend and who wouldn’t “take care” of a friend?

Also means to let him THINK that he’s head of everything in the household…I’m pretty good at that
