Tempation vs Testing

If God never tempts us (our temptations are a result of our sinful desires), then how can we explain the tests (choices) that God us? Aren’t they the same?

I’ve been hearing a lot lately on Catholic Radio that God will never do this to us, He will never tempt us, that He will never lead us into evil, and that temptations are earthly in nature. But then how do we explain the many passages throughout scripture where God tests His peoples?

I think this would be a case of God allowing evil that he didn’t cause so that greater good can come out of it.

Hi, Joe!
…could you cite one of those passages?

Maran atha!
