The Church as sports / Church development

From the “Why are the Orthodox wrong” thread:

I’d like to compare Christ’s church to sports. I don’t want to seem trivial but I think this is a useful analogy.

Didn’t the “coach” largely leave the organization to the “team”? As long as the team conducts itself in ways which do not contradict certain principles or instructions of the coach - even if they do not exactly do the same things in different “quarters” of the “game” (concentrating the play on the “team captain” more and more, for instance) - aren’t the ways of play all valid?

So what you are asking is as long as we play by the rules and don’t go against the coach we can all play our own game/way?

 No, I was alluding to the conception of the Pope’s relationship to other bishops.
