The guidance of saints

How do you explain to someone who questions praying to saints for help?

We ask people on earth to pray for us in our time of need, don’t we? And those who have died and gone to heaven we refer to as saints…who better to ask to pray for us in our time of need than a saint?

God’s two great commandments are to love God and to love our neighbor. The saints in heaven are not absolved from those commandments. Rather, they (unlike us) fulfill them perfectly. And we are their neighbors in Christ. The gospel of Christ would be incomprehensible if those in heaven did not seek in every way to assist us.
