The Story of St. Agnes, 13-Year-Old Saint and Martyr (Whose Catholic Feast Day in 2015 Is Thursday, January 21)

Like Saint Maria Goretti, she was a young girl who died defending her virginity. A beautiful girl, she refused marriage to a pagan, insisting she had no spouse but Jesus. After he turned her in for being a Christian in a time of persecution in the Roman Empire, she was ruthlessly executed. In a world with quite different values from hers, many from the first have much admired her and made her a favorite saint. She is one of the saints named in the mass itself, in the first eucharistic prayer.
