To everyone who has a cross to carry

“Your Cross” by St Francis de Sales

The everlasting God has
in His wisdom foreseen
from eternity the cross
that He now presents to you
as a gift from His inmost heart.

This cross He now sends you
He has considered with His all-knowing eyes,
understood with His divine mind,
tested with His wise justice,
warmed with loving arms
and weighed with His own hands
to see that it be not one inch too large
and not one ounce too heavy for you.

He has blessed it with His holy Name,
anointed it with His consolation,
taken one last glance at you
and your courage,
and then sent it to you from heaven,

a special greeting from God to you,
an alms of the all-merciful love of God.

God bless.

Thanks, I was just wondering which of St Francis’s works it comes from and whereabouts if it’s a long one (e.g. On the Love of God).

Thank you Monica for sharing St. Francis’ words with us!

O Lord, thank You for the crosses which You have given us and the whole world; we offer them up to You, united with all the Holy Mass’ celebrated throughout the world and united with Your sufferings upon the Cross, for love of You, in thanksgiving for every grace which You have given us, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the sins committed against Your Precious Body and Sacred Heart and against the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary. Amen.
