Trump Prepares Orders Aiming at Global Funding and Treaties

#1

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is preparing executive orders that would clear the way to drastically reduce the United States’ role in the United Nations and other international organizations, as well as begin a process to review and potentially abrogate certain forms of multilateral treaties.

The first of the two draft orders, titled “Auditing and Reducing U.S. Funding of International Organizations” and obtained by The New York Times, calls for terminating funding for any United Nations agency or other international body that meets any one of several criteria.

Those criteria include organizations that give full membership to the Palestinian Authority or Palestine Liberation Organization, or support programs that fund abortion or any activity that circumvents sanctions against Iran or North Korea. The draft order also calls for terminating funding for any organization that “is controlled or substantially influenced by any state that sponsors terrorism” or is blamed for the persecution of marginalized groups or any other systematic violation of human rights.

The order calls for then enacting “at least a 40 percent overall decrease” in remaining United States funding toward international organizations.

If Trump can pull us out from giving money blindly to those nations that are openly hostile, discriminatory, terroristic, and anti-democratic, then good for him.

May God bless you all!

And if Trump can turn his back on the huddled masses yearning to be free, shame on him.

…Well the liberals in here told us that we had to take the good with the bad in Hilary, so I guess I would offer the same advice with Trump. He will still let in religious minorities that are being persecuted. That would be Christians.

Good, that’s yet another cut to funding for abortion groups then. In just his first week in office, I’m already very impressed with everything President Trump is doing to preserve life.

Read this and then re-assess.

Presumably you do realise that among the UN groups Trump has targeted is the United Nations Population Fund.

unfpa.org/about-us

The UNFPA among other important work plays a role in assuring that pregnant women fleeing conflict are able to safely give birth, including the 80,000+ pregnant women fleeing the conflict in Syria.

Cutting funds to an organisation that fights female genital mutilation, child marriage, and maternal death seems a particularly stupid way to be “pro-life”.

There are ways to be pro-life without being needlessly cruel.

Oh, and it’s worth pointing out while we’re at it that the draft executive order above also singles out the International Criminal Court, to which the United States contributes precisely zero dollars and zero cents, and in which it does not even participate anyway.

Trump is needlessly cruel, or particularly stupid.

Or, as seems increasingly apparent, both at once.

Stop cheering on this preposterous man who seems hell-bent on making everything except himself worse - and find a genuinely pro-life champion. There are plenty of them around. Plenty of them are Republicans. Plenty of them would make a pretty good president (although to be fair in comparison to the current egregious besmircher of the U.S.'s good name, even Warren Harding looks like the Lincoln, the two Roosevelts, Eisenhower, Washington, Jefferson and Wilson all rolled into one).
