Actress Uma Thurman plays a Catholic nun in her latest movie “Girl Soldier”, the true and tragic story of 140 Ugandan girls who were kidnapped and enslaved in 1996.

Well, based on the previous movies of Uma, its not typecasting.

Her father is a professor and practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism. “Uma” is a Hindu name for God the Mother. “Karuna”, a Buddhist term, is a her middle name, which means “compassion”, “the desire to remove pain and suffering”. She’s not a practitioner of Buddhism, though it is the one religion with which she most closely identifies.
