Understanding the bible?

#1

Many religions within Christianity read the scripture and all view it differently, like the Prodestants, Jehovah’s witness all of us bacicly!

But how do we know if we know the true meaning of the scriptures?

Some people can’t accept certain things, they think that god is all loving, and if that is the case any bits mentioned in the bible eg Hell they think it can’t be possible cause how can a all loving god send us to hell?

So how do we know that we are not twisting the scriptures to suit ourselves?

And also how do we know If we have the right meaning from the scriptures?

All of these groups you mention in fact have NO means to know the true interpretation of Scripture. The fact that they all disagree about essential and important truths calls into question their reliance on the Holy Spirit to guide them. If the Holy Spirit is leading them into 28,000 different interpretations, he is one confused Spirit.

Only the Catholic Church–the same Church that Christ founded, and that wrote the Scriptures and decided what books would be in the Bible–has the authority to interpret them. Jesus’ promise is that he would be with her til the end of time (Matthew 28:20) and that he would lead her to all truth (John 16:13) . We can see that this promise does not apply to individual believers who can and do twist the Scriptures to their own destruction (2 Peter 3:16), but to the Church in her role as teacher and preserver of the faith once handed down to the saints (Jude 1:3).

The Catholic Church knows the true meaning of scripture because even the bible says the church is the pillar and foundation of truth. We can compare it with our sacred tradition which is what the apostles taught to make sense of verses and to understand the actual teaching.

Remember Jesus didn’t leave us a book, He left us a Church.
That is why Jesus founded the Church, to gude us to Him. We can also know the correct interpretation by finding how the first post-apostolic Christians, taught directly by the Apostles interpreted them. These are people who were learned directly at the feet of the Apostles.

Step 1: Understand the basis for your belief in the Bible.

catholic.com/library/Proving_Inspiration.asp

Step 2: Based on that infallible Church, you have limits set on what can and cannot be interpreted from Sacred Scripture. (If further clarification is needed. you ask the Church to settle the matter)

vatican.va/archive/catechism/ccc_toc.htm

Within those limits, you have freedom of prayerful extrapolation of Sacred Scripture, always mindful that you submit to the decisions of Christ’s Church (Mt 18:15-18)
