My mother has COPD with Asthma which is a chronic breathing problem. She also has a heart issue that isn’t fully understood because she’s never really gotten it checked out.
In the past these issues were controlled with medication, however a few days ago she caught a respiratory infection which escalated unbelievably fast. (She went from “fine” to “hospice care,” in about five days.) Her lack of breath made it too difficult to eat or take her medications. As of writing this she hasn’t eaten in three days. The infection coupled with the lack of food and necessary medications made her extremely weak and she could no long get up to go to the bathroom by herself. My sister and I had to help her. The lack of oxygen in her blood stream made her disoriented. My sister and I begged her to go to the hospital but she wouldn’t; she was afraid of what they would do to her. I think this was part of her being disoriented. My aunt has power of attorney, but my mother is lucid for long enough to render that inconsequential.
Yesterday she went into hospice care. When I spoke with her she seemed very disoriented. (She was speaking gibberish) I am terrified of her being in the hospice because they’re not really interested in treating her infection like the hospital would be, as much as they are in holding her hand while she dies. What is worse is that the place they took her to is in a neighboring suburb, and I don’t have a car or reliable way to get there. I don’t want her to die in some place surrounded by strangers.
Please, please pray for my mom. While death is necessary to enter into eternal life, I have come to believe that sickness is NOT God’s will. A person does not need to be sick to die.
