US cardinal in senior Vatican role to ordain new Scottish Archbishop

US Cardinal James Michael Harvey, Archpriest of the Patriarchal Basilica of St Paul-outside-the Walls, was announced today as the principal consecrator of Archbishop-elect Cushley of St Andrews and Edinburgh next month.
The Wisconsin cardinal is the Archpriest of the Patriarchal Basilica of St Paul-outside-the Walls and was the Scottish monsignor’s first superior in the Secretariat of State.
Mr Cushley, the former head of the English-language section of the Vatican’s Secretariat of State, is a Motherwell priest but has been asked by Pope Francis to take over the Scottish Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh from Cardinal Keith O’Brien who retired in the spring.
