LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic online) - Van der Sloot has since been handed over to Peruvian police. He is also the prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway on the Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba.

In an ironic twist of fate, Flores was killed five years to the day after Holloway disappeared. Prosecutors in the U.S. have since charged van der Sloot with extortion in connection with the Holloway case.

Frequently appearing on TV crime shows in after Holloway's disappearance in Aruba, the 22-year-old did not speak to or look at reporters who called to him today as he was escorted into custody.
