Vatican Diary / The first saint of North Korea

He was the bishop of Pyongyang. For more than sixty years he was considered “missing.” But now the Holy See has made his death official, at the age of 106. To permit the opening of his cause of beatification

I’m guessing they declared him dead because he’s been missing for so long and if he’s now at the age where he’s probably dead. In all likelihood I would say that he was martyred by the North Korean Communist regime. I’m sorry about the title as he is not yet a saint but that was the title of the article.

I think everyone knew he was most likely dead 60 years ago. I thought it was a great statement from the Vatican that they kept him on the books as “missing” all these years. And now they are only taking him off to pave the way for his canonization.
