VATICAN - Pope gifts “pocket” Gospel: "carry it with you, and read it every day: it is Jesus speaking to you!" [AN]

Tens of thousands of volumes given away to those who attended the Angelus. Just as he resurrected Lazarus, Jesus “invites us, almost orders us, to leave the tomb of our sins”. Commemoration of Rwanda genocide and Aquila earthquake anniversaries.

The scriptures were handed out by volunteers after the pope’s traditional Sunday appearance to pilgrims and tourists in the square.

The pope did ask for something in return, telling them: “In exchange for this gift, perform an act of charity.” He said such an act might be praying for an enemy, for example.
