Vocation to the Priesthood

Hey all!

I’m beginning to have some serious inclinations toward the priesthood. If you could pray for my cultivation of these feelings, that’d be great!

Also, if any priests on here would like to chime in with some wisdom, let me know!! I’m very excited!!

Praying for you and the discernment of your vocation.

Praying to the Holy Spirit to give you guidance, direction, strength, fortitude & wisdom in your discernment.

Prayers🙏🏻you now need to see if this is His call by going to your priest or. Ocations director of you diosese and they will let you know the next step.

Prayers out.

May God’s will be done…

Gracious and merciful Father, please come to his assistance.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

I pray for vocations every day, so it is good to see them working. I too am discerning my vocation to the Priesthood. I’ve been discerning about 6 years now, and I am hoping to enter Seminary next Sept (2017).

Although I am not a Priest (yet) my advice would be:

  1. Go to Holy Mass, daily if possible.
  2. Go to Confession as often as possible.
  3. Pray every day. I would recommend the Divine Office, which is what Priest’s pray. You will get accustomed to it’s structure. I created my own Horarium (Schedule of Prayer Times).
  4. Talk to your Parish Priest. He should put you in contact with your Diocesan Vocations Director who will chat with you. In turn, he will appoint a Spiritual Director with whom you will have frequent appointments with. He is the Priest who will prepare you for the Seminary and help you. He will also be your confidant if you have concerns or problems. Don’t be afraid to mention things to him.
  5. Read the Gospels, especially how Our Lord calls the Apostles. Read what St. Paul says about what a Priest should be.
  6. Go to Eucharistic Adoration as often as possible, and don’t be afraid to tell the Lord the concerns you have, (such as not being married or having children. This is a most common concern for men).
  7. Have a true devotion to Our Lady.
  8. Try to live a life of virtue, obedience and penance.
  9. Read the Catechism, the Bible and the Church Fathers.
  10. Keep in communication with others who are going through the same thing (like me for example, ha ha  )

Also, be advised it will take time. The Seminary alone is roughly 6-7 years, or shorter depending on your age. Let the Lord do His stuff and trust in Him.

I know it looks a lot, but this is what I have been encouraged to do.

God bless you in your vocation.
