Walking down the aisle alone?

I’ve heard of people doing this;
Bride starts at back and groom at front, then they walk towards each other until they meet in the middle then walk back to the front together.

Mt priest told me that the bride and groom process together. If I remember what he said correctly, it symbolizes that the man and woman leave their families and become one.
