Warren Carroll

My Late father bought just about everything Warren Carroll wrote in terms of history, including the first 4 Volumes (of the Projected 6 Volumes) of Carroll’s History of Christemdom series. I’ve only read the first volume but its Great. It is not only good history from a Catholic perspective, detailed, scrupulously footnoted but also very entaining read to boot. I had heard Dr. Carroll suffered a stroke in 2001 but have not heard anything since then. I was wondering if Dr. Carroll will be able to finish his work on this series. I thought maybe there would be somebody “in the know” about Dr. Carroll and how he is doing.

The fifth volume of History of Christemdom is at the printers as we speak (errrr…type). It should be available before you finish the next three volumes (if you don’t read too fast).

The rumor has it that a tremendous amount of his work was accidentally lost (a digital tsunami wiped out work stored on a computer) and is being reconstructed with the help of some students. This is just a rumor, however.

Congratulations on discovering the work of a most wonderful historian. The scholarship of his work far surpasses that of his contemporaries (and is MOST interesting, as well).

Thank you so much for this information. I’ve been looking and wondering about it for almost two years. My late father (d. 2002)
loved Dr. Carroll’s work and bought virtually everything Carroll wrote which was passed on to me. Several years ago I was able to use Dr. Carroll’s book on the French revolution to defend the Church when I was taking a Political Science class at a very secular public University.

God Bless Dr. Carroll in his Endeavors fot the Faith!
