We all need a religious home

“We all need a religious home…but not a religious prison”

I heard a Rabbi use that phrase, and it stuck with me. I have found it a useful framework to explain to non-Catholics how doctrine can help give us a structure to think around, and to explain to some Catholics how I’m comfortable sometimes thinking/acting outside of that framework.

Does this phrase help you put doctrine in context/perspective or to explain the place of doctrine in our lives?

Well, I’m a slave to Christ. So if this is a prison, I’d don’t want no parole, your honor!

A seminarian shared with me about his visit to jail - many folks whom he talked to in there were glad to be in jail.

A religious prison can be good too depending on how you look at it.
