What about those not going up to receive Communion?

When one does not get in line to receive Communion, what is the best way to let those returning from receiving Communion return to their seats in your pew? Last Sunday, my husband and I did not go up to receive Communion and were kneeling in prayer, and when those who were sitting in our pew returned, it seemed proper to stand up, exit the pew, and allow them to return to their seats. However, I feel as though since we are standing up, we should genuflect out of respect for the Eucharist, but I wasn’t sure we needed to. Should we just sit down and let our pew-mates squeeze past us instead?

You did the appropriate thing. No; you do not need to genuflect at such times.
