What animal is this referring to?

Lamentations 4:3
Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.

Sounds like a type of whale to me because mammals are the only sea creatures who breast feed their young.

Sea Monsters, Jackals, Dragons, Beasts of the Waste. Take your pick:

Clarke’s Commentary:
The word תנין tannin, signifies all large and cruel creatures, whether aquatic or terrestrial; and need not here be restrained to the former sort.
I wonder if the Hebrew font will work for you!

In Genesis 1:21 the KJV and Douay render the word as “whales” or “great whales”.

Hmm, not an easy word to translate (and apparently the root “tan” is unused, so that’s no help)
