What are you missing?

The first 2 examples are the result of the CC’s stance on it’s supreme destructive power over anything that does not, or will not conform to the centuries old doctrines of the “forefathers” etc… etc… The second 2 quotes are the birthing of it. Oh and this is just but a very small example of the history of the church…what it has represented, what it has fostered…thereby what is has become. It’s your church…and this is what it is built on… Does it represent anything good? Of course …but so does yoga…which doesn’t happen to proselytize, witness, righteously judge, and condemn people however nuanced it is. There is an underlying perversity of power that has grown and grown within western religion, and it is no wonder. People have asked where it is written that popes supported military means, etc… etc… below is just a small example from encyclical test…

"Certainly the one who denies that the temporal sword is in the power of Peter has not listened well to the word of the Lord commanding: ‘Put up thy sword into thy scabbard’ [Mt 26:52]. Both, therefore, are in the power of the Church, that is to say, the spiritual and the material sword, but the former is to be administered for the Church but the latter by the Church; the former in the hands of the priest; the latter by the hands of kings and soldiers, but at the will and sufferance of the priest."
Pope Boniface

What am I missing? The three minutes of my life I wasted reading and responding to this inane thread of yours.

Spend more time in prayer and less time listening to Art Bell. Make sure you wear your aluminium foil hat too, the CIA could erase all of your memories otherwise…

Are you a follower of Ayn Rand?

#4

What exactly is wrong with the Church proselytizing, witnessing, righteously judging, and condemning people?

Jesus gave Peter the Keys, take it up with Him.

I don’t blindly follow anyone.

EVERYTHING. Let me inform you of something…when you “witness” to someone…proselytize, send off your missionaries to other lands, who have their own soverign intellect and freedom…You in effect UNDERMINE them…it is offensive, disgusting, and descriminatory. It relegates people to second class citizens…implying they are not “as enlightened” as you…somehow a little bit “pagan”…going to hell etc…Its the same reason we are having the struggle with religion in schools…western religious folk can never understand this idea…but it’s all part of their character I suppose…part and parcel as to why they sold out their own intellect and soverign self to a dogmatic system based on fear and loathing…and it sure isn’t Las Vegas…

people who don’t believe in themselves…believe in gods…and that my friend is an evil bunch. Unnatural, and no way for man to conduct himself. A man abusing his own mind.

Neither do we. Your argument is as familiar to devout Catholics as it is false. Some Catholics are bad, therefore their Church is. Wow! I had no idea that men were sinners. Perhaps we need a savior.

To paraphrase the real estate mantra of “location, location, location”, raynd,

“Context, context, context”

I could pull out words from any document, the Magna Charta to the Declaration of Independence. I could pull out words from the Constitution, from the Bhahavagad Gita (sp.), from the Communist Manifesto. I could pull out words from the Bible, the Qu’ran, the Tao, the Torah, or “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”.

I could make them “support” anything I wanted. . .out of their original context. I could make it appear that any individual, any collective group, any society advocated “X” because of those “words”.

That would not make the appearance the truth.

Raynd,

Are you another intellectual who feels compelled to enlighten those who you deem to be less intelligent than you? Do you then engage them in pre-planned debates where you have already mapped out your potential strategies and responses in order to “prove” the superiority of your argument?

Have you spent countless hours reading everything you could get your hands on and then waiting for the hapless believer to go by so that you could pounce unexpectedly like a robber on the road to Samaria? Do you come to sites like this where you expect to be engaged by those whose arguments are faith based while you ridicule them for their foolish belief in something they can’t see?

I ask this because I decided to see what other posts you have made here. The majority (if not all) of them are in threads that you started and can thereby control. (Classic Troll behavior BTW)

Are you here because of a hatred of Christianity and a projection of your own bigotry onto the religion while you hide behind a facade of “objective scientific curiosity?”

Or are you here because even after all the books you’ve read, speakers you’ve heard, debates you’ve engaged in, and deep thoughts you’ve had, you still wake up in the middle of the darkest night gripped with a fear that despite all you know, you still don’t know?

Amen, amen, I say to you, unless one is born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Are not you doing the same thing with you posts? Is this not self-defeating? Are you not trying to “witness” to us? Are you not here to proselytize us? Are you not a missionary?

Peace

P.S.

When a Christian commits murder he goes **against **his belief system and therefore is in disobedience. When an athiest commits murder he does not, because there is no objective system to disobey–except himself (which would be relative). Therefore, an athiest who thinks murder is morally fine acts in line with what he believes.
