What do they hand out after communion in the small gold boxes?

I started going to a new catholice chuch and I notice several people each week go up and are given these boxes. what are they?

My assumption is that the priest is handing each of them a pyx. A pyx is a small gold container for the Eucharist. Many parishes after communion will hand pyxes to Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and bless them so that after Mass they can bring communion to the parish’s sick and shut ins.
