What do you say to Jehova's Witnesses?

#1

It must be getting warmer–we’re getting knocks at the door. What do you say to a group of Jehova’s Witnesses when they come to your door? I don’t want to be rude, and I’d like something scriptural to have at the top of mind (in a nice way of course!). Any thoughts?

A group? I usually see them in pairs, or a single dude. I always invite them in for a chat

I would love on your next encounter for you to record it and share it with us. I would even pay you for a copy of it, if is good.

When I was a child in the UK, my mother had it down to a fine art. After they had kept her talking at the door for five minutes I would call from the kitchen, “MUM! IT’S BURNING!”

My last encounter with them was on a small Scottish island. They were giving away free videos… I came round the corner of the house in my full Habit. His face was a picture…Then told him I have no TV or video

I once heard that you say:

“Hold on, let me call my Priest so he can come over and Pray for us before we start the discussion”

They normally run like they are being chased by a demon…or so I’ve been told…

The last two times (one JW visit and one Mormon visit), I first gave them my cell number, and asked for theirs.(and I got it)

I explained that I was so pleased that they would share time with me, and that undoubtedly we would not have enough time to talk on this visit… so let’s be able to reach each other after today.

he he he

I saw the two “elders” (both early early twenties) in a Meijer Food Store not long ago… I smiled, they turned and disappeared down the fruit aisle (how ironic is that?)

I would divert the conversation to issue that only 144,000 will go to heaven and ask them how sure are they that they are part of the 144,000 that will go to heaven. When they say they are sure, then question them that there have been millions and millions of you…not all of you can be a member of the 144,000. This really sets them off on a trail of doubt.

whenever a mormon or JW stops me or tries to talk to me… i either play around with their head… or if i dont have time i tell them i am a Jew…they stop bothering me when i say that…sometimes they will be girls and a lot of them looks relaly good… so i start to flirt with them just to piss them off…
one of my friend was a JW and after school he would stand outside witht eh watchtower and try to preach…i felt sorry for him because he wasa bright dude but fell in the hands of this cult…

there is this scientology thing in NY…they have that audit machine. i am goign to go and get ‘audited’ hopefully the last time that happens (dont want IRS coming my way  )
i want to see my results and see what kind bs they throw at me.

I haven’t seen any JW’s for a long long time. I have moved a lot in the last 5 - 6 years. I have seen quite a few LDS, and I always talk to them too.

I try to keep it as non-confrontational as possible. But I don’t accept as truth various statements made by the door knockers and always go to the root - What did the Early Church Fathers teach about this or that? Come on in, my office and library is right over here. Have a seat. Care to read some Polycarp? Ignatius of Antioch, Cyril of Jerusalem, or Cyprian perhaps? I have them all readily available. Oh look some are already dog-eared; isn’t that a coincidence? …

I also invite them inside for a chat. Rarely do I get the same group returning.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone. I’ve seen a lot of “joke” web sites that offer fun solutions, but as cute as those are I’d like to make sure I act as my faith tells me!

Here’s an excellent site (the founder is a Forum member) that would be of help:

catholicxjw.com/

Yes indeed. If you are not adequate in defending your faith, then your options are limited.

A. Tell them your not interested.
B. Let them in and suffer thru it.
C. Try and scare them off.

with A, you have to deal with your conscience.

with B your giving them an invitation to come back.

with C it’s not very christian like and you have to deal with your conscience as well.

How would you handle a Muslim that came to your door?

#19

Ask them in.

Ask them if they have a Bible.

Turn the bible to John 6:20-70 and start reading.

Ask them why, when people turned away and left, why Jesus didn’t say, “Just kidding!”

John 6 is EVERYTHING. It’s the GUTS of Catholicism.

I guess I would simply smile and say, “Thanks, I am a Christ-follower and am not interested in veering from the path God has set before me…” ??? Does that sound like a quick and easy, guilt-free way to handle it? Or is it rude?
