What do you think of Pink's song "Dear Mr President"?

Has anyone here heard the new song by Pink, Dear Mr President? I just got back from Germany and heard it (a lot) while I was there. It’s super popluar. But I’d never heard of it in America. I actually heard it was banned here. Does anyone know this song?

Well I just wanted to know what you guys thought of it… it’s pretty harsh.

"Dear Mr. President"
by Pink

Dear Mr. President,
Come take a walk with me.
Let’s pretend we’re just two people and
You’re not better than me.
I’d like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly.

What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street?
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep?
What do you feel when you look in the mirror?
Are you proud?

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why?

Dear Mr. President,
Were you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
How can you say
No child is left behind?
We’re not dumb and we’re not blind.
They’re all sitting in your cells
While you pave the road to hell.

What kind of father would take his own daughter’s rights away?
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You’ve come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye?

Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don’t know nothing 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh

How do you sleep at night?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Dear Mr. President,
You’d never take a walk with me.
Would you?

First of all it is Pink…

Secondly I don’t care what your political views are it’s tasteless.

Dear Mr. President,
Come take a walk with me.
Let’s pretend we’re just two people and
You’re not better than me.
I’d like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly.

Alright this first group of lines is really kind of silly. First of all, just because somebody is in a political position doesn’t make them higher than a person, and to assume that or take such a position based on sarcasm, exudes a child like character. Don’t like the inferior card when done out of sarcasm.

Pink would like to ask questions provided that both the president and Pink can speak honestly. OK, Pink what if the president was honest with you in the questions you asked and your views differed, would he be honest or would you be honest? What if we asked you Pink about abortion and/or birth control, would you SPEAK HONESTLY? Sure you would…

What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street?
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep?
What do you feel when you look in the mirror?
Are you proud?

I’m wondering if PINK makes more than the president?
I wonder if Pink has a prayer life?
Provided that one is well formed, I guess one could examine their soul when they look into the mirror.
Is it a question about pride?

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why?

How do you sleep pink, when everybody else is crying?
Pink what do you dream about?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Does the president need to answer all your questions?

I’m not going to disect the rest of it, but this song is socialist mentality.

Actually (and I hope I don’t get beaten up for this  ) I love the words to the song, and have wondered some of those things myself.

I think she should ask these same questions to some of the Democratic candidates and Democratic party members, especially Mr. $400 Haircut Who Lives In A Fantastic Mansion in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

The song is quite judgemental about a man she doesn’t even know. I hope that others don’t judge her by the same standards she is judging the President by.

As a non fan of this President, I like the song, but she has done much better ones. Just reading it, doesnt do it justice. It sounds better put to music. I’d rate it a 7/10. I much prefer not ready to make nice by the Dixie Chicks 10/10!

There have been much better protest songs than this one, but its okay. btw, I LOVE Pink! She ROCKS!

She rocks? She also is a big advocate of abortion!

Pink represents worldly mentality. I can love a person, but I don’t have to like them.

Socialist mentality = PINK
Stupid mentality = Bush

I recommend reading Mark Shea’s blogs.

Exactly my point… It’s socialist/liberal mentality…

They can judge, but heaven forbid you question their lifestyle.

[quote=FeelinOhSoFine;2463544 I actually heard it was banned here.

Are you an American? If so you should know that our government dosen’t bann music, books, movies, art, speech, etc., etc. We have the freedom in America to sing anything we want no matter how ignorant or hateful the lyrics are. There can be a price to pay with segments of the population who may feel insulted and boycott/protest your song, of course that too is exercising ones freedom. What do I think of the song? Just another lib “artist” trying to boost their career with controversy:sleep:  .

I just heard it last night on Austrian station Hitradio O2, which I was listening to over the internet.

I personally don’t care for it, not because I am a huge Bush supporter, but because of these lyrics:

What kind of father would take his own daughter’s rights away?
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You’ve come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.

Questions for Pink:

  1. …and ensure his granddaughter has the right to LIVE?

  2. Simply not accepting the homosexual lifestyle or trying to condone it through same-sex marriage does not mean one “hates” homosexuals!

Not much. I wish entertainers would keep their political opinions out of their work.

my thoughts exactly.

as the adage goes… if i want a message i’ll go to western union.

I’ve never cared about celebrity opinions nor have i given then credence. Entertain me, don’t preach to me.

I don’t mind message music…but it takes a lot of talent to write a message song that doesn’t sound sophomoric (this one certianly does). One can question Bush’s foriegn policy, but we can hardly blame him for every social ill we have…or perceive that we have. (Pink and I apparently would not agree on what the social ills are regarding abortion and some other issues.) It is absurd to say that Bush doesn’t care about the homeless. While homelessness in this country is sometimes an issue of poverty, it is more often an issue of mental illness or drug use. I am not aware of Bush demonstrating callousness regarding individuals who have those issues. …Also, I think if Pink wants to be taken seriously, I think she should name herself after a stronger color.

A thoughtful post which I agree.

Pink?

Pink* thinks?

*I don’t think so. Pink sounds like every whiny left wing rocker from the past 40+ years.

Wow… she mentioned that cocaine thing? Hrm, maybe I should start holding my breath for a song about Barack and his open use of cocaine…

Where is the OP?

Link please?

Um, yeah, Pink ROCKS…I may disagree with her views but I have common sense enough to separate that from hers or anyone elss TALENT - which has ZERO to do with their view points or lifestyles.

In case anybody is interested the music video of this song is available here youtube.com/watch?v=ugH5MUNNL0c
I quite like the song and I personally agree with several of the points, especially on the working poor, when working full time still leaves people unable to pay for both food and shelter something is wrong with the social conscience of politicians who don’t act to fix that. I think that pinning all the problems on one person is taking it too far but that’s artistic license, “Dear Mr President” fits into a song much better than “Mr President and Mr/Ms Congressman/woman and Mr/Ms Senator”
I like a few of Pink’s songs, especially ‘Stupid girl’ from a few months ago I think it’s great that somebody in popular culture is challenging the sexualised image of femininity and the notion that a woman’s role is simply to please men which is often presented to girls today youtube.com/watch?v=ar6bhinHVh4

gah. annoying, i’m not American so i don’t really care what president you have & i don’t want to be reminded of politics when i listen to the radio.
the worst lines are taking "daughters rights away…“
never mind that not all women agree with abortion of demand
” hate his daughter if she was gay."
um how do we know that? its just an ad hominem.
