What does this mean?

After our priest consecrates the host, he then makes both of his hands into the “okay” sign; i.e.he touches his index fingers to his thumbs and extends the rest of his fingers while recites the rest of the prayers. Can anyone tell me what this means? I’m sort of uncomfortable asking our priest. Thanks.

It used to be the norm, and some priests still do it.
The most simple explanation is that those fingers are used to touch the Host, and only the Host, and it keeps any particles of Our Lord from being wiped away or otherwise blasphemed.

More detailed, traditional-oriented explanation here: maniplesmatter.blogspot.com/2013/01/keep-those-fingers-together-message-to.html

Thanks so much.
