What if Mary had said no?

I mentioned that blessed Mother Theresa had responded to a question about her devotion to Mary with the words “no Mary no Jesus,” to an adult ed class. Our deacon said yes there would have been. God would have asked somebody else. This does not seem to correspond to the Church’s teaching about Mary’s yes being so important to our redemption. Would you help us out here? God bless you for your work with Catholic Answers.
