What is Church teaching on non Catholics going to Heaven?

When I was young, many years ago in Catholic grade and high school I was taught that one must be Catholic to be saved. In recent years ( I think since Vatican II) it seems that the Church now teaches that one must be baptized but not necessarily in the Catholic Church

During my recent reading I came across a listing of Church dogma by Dr. Ludwig Ott. In this document he states under VI Catholic Church, that “Membership in the Catholic Church is necessary for all men for salvation”

Can you clear this up for me?
