I am wondering about what is going on with the Jesuits these days. There seems to be a division amongst them. On the one hand, Jesuits like Fr. Joseph Fessio run apostolates such as Ignatius Press that seem to be on target with regard to the teachings of the Catholic Church. On the other hand, other Jesuits with whom I’ve had contact are so liberal it’s laughable. What is going on?
Many of the major religious orders have similar situations. Some members assent to the teachings of the Church and promote fidelity to the Church’s doctrinal and moral teaching, others do not. Basically, the same is true for the Church as a whole. It could be said that the religious orders are a microcosm of the universal Church.
