What is the Reformed Catholic Church?

I have a friend who tells people that she belongs to the “Reformed Catholic Church”. Is there such a thing. Can you explain what she means. Is it legitimate?

Well, there might be a group that calls itself that but it most certainly not part of the Catholic Church.

There are two groups that I am aware of that call themselves “Reformed Catholic Church.”

One is based on a group of priests who left the Catholic Church in 1879 in New York City. They formed their own congregations and used mostly Evangelical Protestant theology.

The other is based in Venezuela. It was founded by clergy that left the Catholic Church and the Anglican and Lutheran communities. They do have a sacramental theology that is similar to the Catholics but they are not in communion with the Catholic Church or even the Anglican and Lutheran communities.
