What is the scoop on St. Mary Magdalen?

What is the official Church teaching on legends or stories that surround the early saints or Church Fathers and Apostles? I am referring to the stories or traditions of the deaths of St. Peter and St. Paul and/or St. Mary Magdalene. I know there are different versions, for instance, of what happenned to St. Mary Magdalene - how are these stories regarded by the Church?

Oh, and is there a good, solid, official place to go to find out about the deaths or final resting places of the saints?

Thank you.

Dear LSK,

There are many false stories about St. Mary Magdalen these days. For the straight scoop on this great saint, read this article in the Original Catholic Encyclopedia:
