During physics class I was listening to a guy discussing why the soul doesn’t exist. He argued that the concept of ‘me’ is simply an evolutionary result of neuron connections designed to promote self-reliance at the expense of others, a way to ensure survival. I was suddenly startled to realize that I don’t actually know what the soul is! :eek: Because this is such a fundamental tenet of faith, I’d appreciate it if someone could explain what the Catholic Church says ‘the soul’ is?
The soul is the spiritual principle of human beings. It is also called the principle of life. When the soul leaves the body, the body dies. Plants and animals have souls. But only the souls of human beings are immortal. For more see:
