What ten things define a culture or society?

Ok I was just asked this question by an aspiring social linguist. He looking for field data on what ordinary people view as what defines a culture/society. He’s not looking for what people think are the good or bad things… but instead things like religion, shared language, etc.

So here goes….

What ten things do you believe define a culture or society?

Art
Music
Medicine
Law

Ok thats only 4 but I am going to sleep now.
You already mentioned religion or it would have been 5.

Each are different. A culture can be in more than one society, and is bound by different criteria than a society is. A society can contain many different cultures and binds all by it’s authority.

Society:
1.) laws
2.) shared civic responsibility
3.) limited legal authority bounded by borders
4.)

Culture
1.) a shared history
2.) common rites and practices
3.) race (though that seems to be diminishing)
4.)

Can’t think of more just now off the top of my head, but that is how I see it. Interesting question to see what others come up with.
