What was your wedding song?

The post about the songs that help you through the tough times made me think of asking this…What was your wedding song? What made you choose it?

Ours was I Cross My Heart by George Strait. We liked it because it set to music the promises that we were about to make to one another…
I cross my heart and promise to
Give all I’ve got to give to make all your dreams come true.
In all the world you’ll never find
A love as true as mine…

The organist made something up for us on the fly, that had never been played before and to my knowledge has never been played since. We didn’t have a “song” as such, and we couldn’t think of anything we liked, so we just told him to make something up.

All I remember about it now is that, at the time, I thought it was beautiful.

The Road Ahead.
By Tom Petty

Take a look
At what I’ve got
I can’t promise
You a lot
But you and me
And the road ahead
I can’t save
You from yourself
You got to want it
All that’s left
Is you and me
And the road ahead
Wherever that wind might blow
Wherever that river rolls
You know I will go with you
Looking over
The mountain’s crown
The water roars
And tumbles down
Like you and me
And the road ahead
Wherever that wind might blow
Wherever that river rolls
You know I will go with you
Just you and me

still chokes me up when i hear it.

By wedding song - you mean the first song we danced to at the reception righ? - You wouldn’t play George Strait in church would you???

Ours was Anne Murray’s "Could I Have This Dance"
for the rest of my life

It’s a Small, Small World.

Our First Dance: Bryan Adams’ Everything I Do (I Do For You) You know, the Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves Movie Song

Our Last Dance: Tim McGraw’s My Best Friend

Can you tell I got just married in the last few years, and that I was in my early 20s when I married?

First dance:

“The Meeting” by Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman

*Surely I could tell
When I sleep tonight
A dream will call
And raise it’s head in majesty
Dividing all my energy
To the meeting of your love

Where from whence it came
Like a singer searching for a song
I try to reach where you belong
As I will be the song for you
I will be your servant child

No, oh no
I cannot be deceived
No, oh no
There’s something
That I feel
There’s something that I feel inside

Surely I could tell
If you ask me Lord
To board the train

My life my love would be the same
As I will be the one for you
In the meeting of your love
In the meeting of your love
*

Last dance: “Keeper of the Stars”

*It was no accident me finding you
Someone had a hand in it
Long before we ever knew
Now I just can’t believe you’re in my life
Heaven’s smilin’ down on me
As I look at you tonight

I tip my hat to the keeper of the stars
He sure knew what he was doin’
When he joined these two hearts
I hold everything
When I hold you in my arms
I’ve got all I’ll ever need
Thanks to the keeper of the stars

Soft moonlight on your face oh how you shine
It takes my breath away
Just to look into your eyes
I know I don’t deserve a treasure like you
There really are no words
To show my gratitude

I tip my hat to the keeper of the stars
He sure knew what he was doin’
When he joined these two hearts
I hold everything
When I hold you in my arms
I’ve got all I’ll ever need
Thanks to the keeper of the stars

It was no accident me finding you
Someone had a hand in it
Long before we ever knew
*

We danced to “From this Moment On” by Shania Twayn. My brother made a cool little vidio fo still fraims from our wedding with that song plying in the background. it’s really beautiful.

Our wedding was a theatrical event titled “The Song of Songs.”

So we had lots of songs in our wedding.

“Jesu Joy Of Man’s Desiring” Bach

“In Native Worth” from “The Creation” by Haydn

“What Is A Youth?” from Zeffirelli’s “Romeo and Juliet”

“Communion Song” by Barry McGuire

“Throne Room” from Star Wars

In fact, after the wedding, a mom came up to us and said that her little girl was insisting that the music was “Star Wars,” and she wanted us to correct the child. We said, “Star Wars.” Ooo!

The whole wedding was like a show. People told us afterwards that it was the most entertaining wedding that they’d ever seen!

28 year anniversary on June 16!

Our first dance was “I can’t help falling in love with you” by the King, Elvis Presley.

As for the nuptual mass, all I remember at this point was “Lord of all Hopefulness” as the opening hymn, and “Song of St. Patrick” as the closing hymn. I think we had “Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring” and “Canon in D” as prelude music, but we weren’t in there to hear it.

Oh I think it was…

** " and now the end is near, and so I face the final curtain" **

This is the song we danced to at our reception:

Musical: Pippin
Song: With You

PIPPIN
My days are brighter than morning air
Evergreen pine and autumn blue
But all my days are twice as fair
If I could share
My days with you

My nights are warmer than firecoals
Incense and stars and smoke bamboo
But nights were warm beyond compare
If I could share
My nights with you

To dance in my dreams
To shine when I need the sun
With you
To hold me when dreams are done

And oh…
My dearest love
If you will take my love
Then all my dreams are truly begun

And time weaves ribbons of memory
To sweeten life when youth is through
But I would need no memories there
If I could share
My life with you

The orchestra asked for a list of songs we’d like played, and I included How Much Is That Doggie in the Window. Not only did they play, but I got up on stage and sang it.

Um…we’re not married anymore.

The only dancing we had was the two of us to one song. It was a luncheon, so there was no entertainment after the meal, just us. http://www.brides.ourladyforums.com/images/smilies/smlove2.gif

We danced to a song from Chantal Kreviazuk, a Canadian artist with a beautiful voice. Listen to the song here (you need to click the right song though - FEELS LIKE HOME): myspace.com/chantalkreviazuk

Our First Dance at our wedding was
Babyface and Kenny G’s Song:

Everytime I Close My Eyes

Girl it’s been a long time, long time comin’
but I, I know that it’s been worth the wait
It feels like springtime in winter
It feels like Christmas in June (we got married in June so this was appropriate)
It feels like heaven has opened up
its gates for me and you

Chorus:
And every time I close my eyes
I thank the lord that I’ve got you
And you’ve got me too
And every time I think of it
I pinch myself 'cause
I don’t believe it’s true
That someone like you
Loves me too

Girl I think that you’re truly somethin’
And you’re, you’re every bit of
a dream come true
With you baby, it never rains
and it’s no wonder
The sun always shines when I’m near you
It’s just a blessing that I have found
somebody like you

Chorus

To think of all the nights
I’ve cried myself to sleep
You really oughta know
how much you mean to me
It’s only right that you be
in my life right here with me
Oh baby, baby

Chorus

Yup, our first dance was “I cross my heart” by George Strait also.

The song playing as we left was “Viva Las Vegas”, because that’s where we were headed for the honeymoon.

I danced with my mom to “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. It didn’t sound quite right, but I liked the lyrics to it.

U2’s “All I Want Is You”.

“Ship of Fools”

All of My Life, by Diana Ross.

Yours, Bob, not your wife’s…

Our first dance was “Always” by Atlantic Starr. The lyrics were perfect for a wedding!

Come with me, my sweet,
Let’s go make a family,
And they will bring us joy,
For always
