Seeking the Sacrament Confirmation meant that I was ready to embrace the Church and her teachings for myself. I could not do this as a teen. I attended CCD through 9th or 10th grade (can’t remember now), but chose not to be confirmed.
It was a long road back, but at age 30, I was finally confirmed. If I could change anything about my journey, I don’t think I would. The search for answers and struggle with difficult teachings made the homecoming all the more sweet!
My experience is different from someone who, perhaps, has attended Catholic school and has received an ongoing, thorough catechesis since baptism. CCD left me, as a teen, with far too many unanswered questions.
My short answer to the question would be, “You are ready for Confirmation when you are ready to accept the Catholic Faith as your own faith, and live it maturely.”
Good for you, Panis Angelicas, for respecting your daughter’s wishes!
