When can a priest/bishop/cardinal be removed from his ministry?

Just wondering if the Church has outlined anything on this matter. E.g. of a priest sexually assaults someone, will he be removed from ministry? What level of a crime/what crimes result in a priest being removed? I realized we’re all called to forgiveness and we can still forgive clerics without maintaining them in ministry positions. Where do they go when they can no longer say mass/do ministry? What usually happens?

A bishop or religious superior can remove a priest from active ministry. The pope can remove a bishop. We have, unfortunately, seen this happen a number of times recently. A suspended priest is usually forbidden to say Mass publicly or wear clerical clothing in public. They are usually sent somewhere private for penance and prayer.

Or, if allegations are found to be truthful, defrocked.
