Hello everyone. I was wondering about the sign of the cross. When did it first start being used? I am assuming it is very ancient.
I am wondering about this because most Protestants pray in Jesus' name only but Catholics often begin and end prays "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen." I want to know how to defend the sign of the cross from any Protestants, Evangelicals, Fundamentalists etc who might say that we are doing it wrong.
Also, from what I understand, it is perfectly okay to end prayers "In Jesus' name. Amen." or to end them "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen." but I could potentially see a Protestant, Evangelical, or Fundamentalist objecting to the latter. How does one defend the latter way?
