When does the hour fast for the Eucharist begin?

Does the hour fast before receiving Jesus in the Eucharist begin an hour before mass (the celebration of the Eucharist) or an hour before the actual consumption of the Eucharist at Communion?

The Eucharistic fast is to be observed for one hour prior to the reception of the Eucharist, not prior to the beginning of Mass. Code of Canon Law (CIC) states, “A person who is to receive the Most Holy Eucharist is to abstain for at least one hour before holy communion from any food and drink, except for only water and medicine” (CIC 919 §1).
