When must I go to confession?

My friend says she “googled” How often she must go to confession. She claims the response was "only if you commit a mortal sin do you have to go to confession. She says that “technically” she will never have to go to confession, if she does not commit a mortal sin. She says this implies that the annual “Easter Duty” no longer applies.
