Where Adam and Eve corrupt from the start?

#1

At first glance, the fall of man seems to make it look like people were corrupt from the start. The serpent played on Eve’s greed when it told them that they would be like God, knowing good and evil. Does this mean that Adam and Eve were corrupt from the start? Or were Adam and Eve simply naive and easily tricked by the serpent? I know that this contradicts what God says after he created them, that is was all good. but I don’t know how to explain this to someone whom I am discussing this with.

Was humanity corrupt from the start, or Just naive? Or neither?

No Adam and Eve were not corrupt.

They had free will that they could exercise for or against God.

They chose to exercise their free will, the result of which was the Fall.

The Catechism has a good section on Original Sin and the Fall.
