[quote=T.A.Stobie, SFO]The Beloved Disciple is John (in one sense) and every disciple (in another sense).
John the Apostle did die of old age in exile.
John wanted us to all see the we are all called to be the beloved disciple of Christ, to be Jesus’ friend, to stand with Jesus through good times and bad, to have Mary as our mother, to rest our heads on his chest, etc. The Gospel of John is the gospel of love where John tries to show us how much Jesus loves us and wants to be loved by us.
We as the Beloved Disciples continue to live today.
John was the only disciple that died a natural death. All the other appostles were martyered. Did Jesus love John an more than any of the appostles? I believed Jesus loved them all the same. It was John who had a closer relationship with Jesus. The closer we come the more blessed we will be be. Jesus blessed John with a longer life.
