Why can't a Catholic Apologist speak about specific politicians?

I recently heard on CA Live Jimmy Akin respond to a political question, but the question had to be reworded. Jimmy Akin very sternly stated that he couldn’t officially speak about specific politicians, but only Catholic moral principles.
My question is:
Why can’t a Catholic Apologist speak about specific politicians? Is there some hidden restriction or rule about this?
Thank you and God bless!

Dear friend,

It is the work of Catholic Answers to state clearly and OBJECTIVELY what the Church teaches. So it would be inappropriate for Catholic Answers to enter onto partisan politics and endorse individual politicians. We articulate Catholic principles and encourage others to reach the logical conclusions on their own.
