Why do some kiss their thumb after making the Sign of the Cross?

I have noticed that sometimes after someone makes the sign of the cross they will put their thumb and forefinger up to their lips as if they are throwing a kiss. What does that mean? Hope that this is not a dumb question. :

Nothing dumbe here. I used to wonder about this also. What the person actually does after making the Sign of the Cross is make a little cross by crossing his thumb with his index finger. Then he kisses it.
