Why do we Catholics allow the use of pagan gods as names of the week?

Why do we Catholics allow and or use the pagan god names for the days of the week and months? I’m about 99 percent sure there is a verse in the old testament which says to get rid of all pagan traditions or something like that.

In addition to this, why is it okay to use pagan symbols such as the Christmas tree?
