Why is a Catholic NOT an idol worshiper?

The Bible states that we should not bow to anyone but to God because he is a “jealous God” . Why do we " Hail Mary" ? This seems very anti Christian.

When we quote from Scripture, we must always first look at the context. In Exodus 20:4 we read: “You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them”. He said this because these are the people who earlier had created a molten calf and worshipped it while Moses was receiving the Commandments from God. God’s point was that He didn’t want them worshipping anything other than Himself.

In Luke 1:28 the angel Gabriel wasn’t worshipping Mary when he said: “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you.” He was simply saying what God told him to say. We aren’t worshipping her either when we say those words. We HONOR her. To worship is to acknowledge divinity. We don’t acknowledge the saints as divine. But this is precisely what the Jews were doing with the golden calf. Big Difference!
