Why was Mary necessary?

My husband and I have been discussing why Mary was necessary when God could have formed Jesus’s body from clay as He did with Adam and Eve. My husband suggested that Jesus was to have every aspect of humanity and therefore required conception, gestation, and birth, just as all other humans other than the first man and woman.

My desire to be nearer to Mary is what brought me to Catholicism a little over a decade ago and I know her role is incredibly important, but I am hoping you can give me more insight into this. Are there books that you could recommend that delve more deeply into this subject?
